Zone Controller Architecture: Smart Power Distribution, High-Side eFuses & Mixed-Signal I/O Aggregation
Engineering the hardware topology of modern Zone Control Units, integrating high-side smart power switches and configurable analog/digital interfaces.
A modern Zone Controller functions as both an I/O aggregator and a smart power distribution center:
• Smart Power Management: Traditional mechanical relay boxes and melting fuses are replaced with semiconductor high-side eFuses (smart MOSFETs). eFuses detect short-circuits in microseconds, preventing cable melting and enabling dynamic power load shedding. • Mixed-Signal I/O Aggregation: ZCUs incorporate configurable analog, digital, PWM, and H-bridge channels, allowing a single common hardware module to interface with headlights, door latches, ultrasonic sensors, and seat motors. • Local Protocol Translation: On-board microcontrollers bridge local LIN and CAN subnets into standardized Ethernet packets.
