Integrating 48V Power Distribution with 10 Gbps Ethernet: Smart Zonal Wiring Optimization
By Dr. Matthew Vance, Chief Zonal Architect • September 2026
Abstract:
Design paradigms for unifying 48V electrical architectures with high-speed multi-gigabit zonal communications to maximize electric vehicle range.
1. The 48V Electrical Revolution Transitioning automotive auxiliary systems from 12V to 48V reduces electrical current by a factor of 4, allowing wiring harness cross-sectional area and resistive heat losses to drop by a factor of 16 (P = I²R).
2. Packaging Power and Data This paper evaluates physical harness convergence: bundling 48V power conductors alongside shielded twisted-pair (1000BASE-T1) and multi-gigabit (10GBASE-T1) Ethernet cables. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) simulation and laboratory measurements confirmed that high-frequency switching noise from 48V DC-DC converters did not degrade Ethernet packet integrity.
